“It’s hard for many people to remember that less than a decade ago, Iraq was not a violent country with sectarian differences. It led the Arab world in many fields, such as education, medicine, science, womens’ rights, and technology. The Ba’ath Party that ruled Iraq and brought it out of an almost medeival society and transformed it into a modern, functional state, was outlawed by the US after it invaded Iraq in 2003. In a few days, we will witness the sixth anniversary of the murder of the man who led the Ba’ath Party and whose visionary programs made Iraq worth fighting for: Saddam Hussein. It all seems so short a time, yet so long ago. The following piece is from my book, “The Mother of All Battles: The Endless US-Ira War.” It’c called, “Saddam Hussein’s Greatest Legacy: December 2003 to December 2006.”
